OpenAI, supported by Microsoft, has unveiled its text-to-video AI model, Sora. Initially, it has been made available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. The release marks a significant step forward in OpenAI’s multimodal AI technology, according to a Reuters report.

Sora was first introduced in February as a research preview for limited users. It has now been rebranded as Sora Turbo and offered for free to Plus and Pro users. OpenAI announced that users can create videos up to 20 seconds long with a maximum resolution of 1080 pixels. Additionally, the videos can be generated in widescreen, vertical, or square aspect ratios.

Currently, Sora is not available in European Union countries, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom. However, it is accessible in other regions where ChatGPT services are provided.

To prevent misuse, OpenAI has implemented strict safeguards for the model. For instance, attempts to create content involving child exploitation or sexual deepfakes will be blocked. In the initial phase, uploading personal images will be limited, but as deepfake prevention measures improve, access will be expanded to more users.

OpenAI also announced plans to introduce various custom pricing models for users in the coming year.

With Sora, OpenAI aims to strengthen its position in competition with other companies offering text-to-video tools, such as Meta, Google, and Stability AI.
